China and India – Leaders in Sports Equipment

China is quite dynamic in providing sports solutions to major economies of the world. The credit goes to its govt. which spends heavily in booming sports industry and overall trade by making exports and foreign investment easier through various export promotion policies and establishing its hubs in different countries to allow quick and easy access to various countries and allows economies of scale. It ranks 78th among 190 countries in ease of doing business whereas India ranks 100th.

Historically India is the manufacturing hub for sports goods backed by the seasoned and skilled workforce and cheap labor. Moreover, India has a good population of English speakers and a focused approach to customer behavior that is dynamic and diverse. India itself being the fusion of various diversities has the acumen to customize and adapt to various cultures and providing the innovative products catering to the needs of different regions all across the globe. Though being more on the labor-intensive side is considered as a drawback when it comes to bulk order processing, but it has the upper hand in designing customized products that require precision,  craftsmanship and fabrication expertise which machines cannot provide. It allows a flexible approach to process orders as per the demand of customers relieving them from the constraint of ordering in excess quantities. This industry is also a source of earning for a large number of people who rely on their craft skills for earning and small unorganized sector of retailers. The government of India has taken many initiatives to support this age-old Indian sports industry to reach its full potential through initiatives like SEZ, MSME, Make in India and the like. As a result, strong players in sporting products have emerged which are driven by youth and visionaries of innovation fuelling the sports industry globally.
